Listen, as humans, especially as humans going through difficult times, we love to romanticize anything we can. We cling to any sort of dopamine we find, even if we all know it's mostly just an idea. For instance, this anglerfish. If you haven't heard the story of the anglerfish recently, then buckle up, bestie. It's a tearjerker. The facts are that it was a blind deep sea creature swimming to the top, as they tend to do at the end of their life. That's all we can say for certain. But the story us romantics have spun online is much more poetic and that's what we're going to cling to today. 

 

This strong independent woman of a deep sea fish, with the nickname "Black Seadevil," has been her own light her entire life. The men in her life were all simply parasites (like, actually, that's how male anglerfish mate, they are literal parasites, but anyway…). She didn't need anyone else. But being your own light your entire life can get lonely. As she knew she was coming up on taking her last seawater breaths, she decided to find a light that she did not have to carry all on her own. So she swam and swam, and swam for a very long time because she lives miles under the darkness and is no bigger than the palm of your hand. Finally, she found the most beautiful light that shone brighter than she could have ever imagined. It was the sun. With her heart full, desires fulfilled, and a newfound sense of awe, she confidently took her last breath. 

 

Yes, we know that is a very unlikely story, but it's called poetry. Okay? Let us romanticize online, it's all we've got! Well, that… and memes!
